Involving children in cooking from a young age, helps them feel comfortable in the kitchen and they learn to love it. Create and experience for the children by involving them in easy tasks. I always like to make cookies with my granddaughters. To prepare, I pre-measure everything. Then I let them take turns turning on and off the mixer, and pouring in the ingredients. They love to roll cookies with a rolling pin and use cookie cutters to make fun shapes. They have also learned to decorate cookies, beat eggs, measure water and mix ingredients.
When cooking with children, think of safe tasks they can do. Other tasks my granddaughters love in the kitchen are helping set the table and drawing their own placemats. Sorting through the flatware when it comes out of the dishwasher and putting it away. Helping load the dishwasher makes them feel like special helpers.
