Have you ever noticed that on the Food Network and other cooking shows or demonstrations they NEVER use garlic presses to press garlic? The master chefs can chop a piece of garlic to a paste without breaking a sweat. I doubt that most home cooks can do that. Rachael Ray will use a grater or zester to get the garlic to a fine consistency. Well I can’t chop my garlic that small and I am bound to cut my fingers by using a grater for an item that small.

To peel garlic, lay the side of the knife against the garlic and smash down with your hand. This will loosen the peel and you can remove it from the garlic. For one or 2 cloves, I rely on my garlic smasher. If doing several cloves, I will chop them in my mini-chopper. This allows those delightful garlic juices to come out.
