I spent so much time whining during the summer, I neglected to post before and after photos. To be fair, this is still a work in progress. There are many thigns still to be done in our house as we renovate it.
However let me share a few good things in our house, one block from the beach!
The house is a two family and we gutted and replaced the second floor kitchen. Here are before and after photos. I am proud to say I did this kitchen on a very limited budget.
The outside was pretty bad as well. We put insulation and siding on the second floor, replaced the first floor windows and replaced and expanded the back deck! I have to mention our contractor was great - Diamond Housecraft - very neat workers and very competent.
Before pictures - notice the peeling paint on the cedar shingle and the rotting deck.
Exterior After pictures - notice we moved the back door to the dining room so it is a sliding door.
Before you ask, yes, this cost a bit of money. No, we don't have expensive taste. My husband and I just want things that will last, be sustainable and not need tons of maintenance. We had to consider the beach weather, sand, and the effects of the nearby ocean in our choices. Do we still have things to do? Yes, yes, yes, the list goes on. Now that the outside is almost finished (still need to replace some doors and the front porch rail), and the cold weather is here, we are moving inside again.
Our favorite saying is - we are getting there!
